Covid Response

The measures taken by the Irish Government to contain the coronavirus pandemic meant that all museums and galleries remained closed from the beginning of 2021 until early May.

IMMA continually engaged with the team at Fáilte Ireland and used their Covid-19 Safety Charter to ensure that the galleries and grounds at IMMA were safe and comfortable for our visitors.

We were delighted to work with the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media  in July to host a pilot event that required all ticketholders to under-go antigen tests before entry. The event had a small audience of 3,500 with movement restrictions, but it was a great success and heralded a gradual reopening of the cultural sector. A Meadows Festival weekend, again with restricted numbers, opened on 20 August and featured established and emerging musicians, and spoken word.
